2025-03-06

On Thursday, 6 March, the Chairwoman of the Committee on European Union Affairs, Agnieszka Pomaska, and the Vice-Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on European Union Affairs, Sen. Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka received representatives of the Committee on European Union Affairs of the Swedish Parliament headed by its chairman Erik Ottoson. Ambassador Andreas von Bekerath of Sweden also took part in the meeting.

The discussion concerned, among other things, transatlantic relations, security, priorities of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council and Polish-Swedish cooperation.
According to Erik Ottoson, Polish-Swedish relations have recently gained in importance. The Swedish parliamentarian acknowledged the Polish support for his country’s NATO membership. As he pointed out, Poland was the first to ratify the treaty on Sweden’s accession to the Alliance.

The interlocutors agreed on the need for continued Polish and Swedish support for Ukraine, regardless of the position of the current US administration.

Chairwoman of the Sejm’s EU Affairs Committee Agnieszka Pomaska emphasised the importance of security issues as one of the priorities of the Polish Presidency. She added that the Interparliamentary Conference on Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy (23-25 March), taking place as part of its parliamentary dimension, would provide a good opportunity to discuss the current international situation.
