Kaczyński wrote to Ziobro. KO writes to the National Electoral Commission regarding the resumption of proceedings.

The Civic Coalition wants the National Electoral Commission to once again check the PiS financial report from 2019. This is a reaction to the publication of a letter that Jarosław Kaczyński allegedly sent to Zbigniew Ziobro five years ago regarding irregularities in the spending of funds from the Justice Fund.

Together with MP Agnieszka Pomaska, we decided today to submit an application to the National Electoral Commission to resume the proceedings that ended with the adoption of the financial report of the Law and Justice election committee for 2019 – said KO MEP Michał Szczerba at a press conference in the Sejm.

New circumstances emerged and were revealed in a letter from Jarosław Kaczyński to the then Minister of Justice, Zbigniew Ziobro. This letter clearly proves that the PiS president knew about prohibited, illegal practices related to financing the election campaign of Solidarna Polska candidates (currently Sovereign Poland – editor’s note) using funds from the Justice Fund – said the politician.

Szczerba added that “this matter must be clarified.” – Similar practices may have occurred during the 2023 parliamentary campaign – he said.

Instead of helping crime victims, hundreds of millions of zlotys helped United Right politicians in the election campaign. So far, it has often been emphasized that irregularities related to the Justice Fund are the responsibility of Solidarna Polska only. Today we have evidence that this case places an equal burden on Jarosław Kaczyński and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, said MP Agnieszka Pomaska.

Before the 2019 parliamentary elections, PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński asked Zbigniew Ziobro “to immediately ban Solidarna Polska candidates from using the Justice Fund in the election campaign.” “Gazeta Wyborcza” received a letter regarding this matter.

I would like to draw the Minister’s attention to the fact that the cases that are already being talked about in our coalition circles, if true, may bring disastrous consequences both in terms of the course of the campaign and for reasons related to its settlement before the National Electoral Commission. “- wrote the PiS president. He added that if the recommendation is not followed, full political responsibility will rest with Zbigniew Ziobro. Similar letters were addressed to Zbigniew Ziobro by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. In 2021 and 2022, the head of government was to summon Zbigniew Ziobro to provide explanations three times.

In the elections since 2015, the parties of Jarosław Kaczyński and Zbigniew Ziobro ran in one bloc and jointly settled the expenses incurred for the elections before the National Electoral Commission. If it turns out that their campaign was financed contrary to the regulations, the National Electoral Commission may withdraw the subsidy from PiS – over PLN 25 million per year.He may also apply for a refund for the 2019-23 term.
