On Thursday, February 18, 2021, Civic Platform presented its position on safe motherhood – „Women’s Rights Package”.
During the press conference, PO leader Borys Budka said that the party rejected all extremes, i.e. unlimited access to abortion and its absolute ban.
Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, who headed the team that was to work out a party position, started with a declaration that the PO „wants as many children as possible to be born”.
Agnieszka Pomaska recalled that it was PiS who destroyed the compromise. Because the 1993 law might not have been perfect, but it did provide a basic sense of security. – PiS forced Polish women to be heroic and, at the same time, for five years took away the dignity of Poles – she commented.
The „Women’s Rights Package” consists of two proposals:
The „Women’s Safety” Act:
– providing free prenatal tests
– guarantee of easy access to free contraception
– access to the „morning after” pill without a prescription
– sex education lessons in schools
– constant financial support and medical care in the event of giving birth to a disabled child
– free in vitro
„New Social Contract”:
Guaranteeing every Polish woman in an extremely difficult personal situation the right to make – after consulting a psychologist and a doctor – an individual decision on a possible termination of pregnancy up to 12 weeks in safe conditions.
